HOOK NORTON (SENIOR SECTION) FOOTBALL CLUB
As I hurriedly compose this article to beat Andy's 15th May deadline, last evening's End of Season Presentations' Get Together is, obviously, still very fresh in my mind.
Despite our First Team finishing in a disappointing mid-table position and the Reserve Team, once again, ending up as the 'basement boys' in their division, I am delighted to report that morale within our Club remains at an all time high, with the result that we felt we still had plenty to celebrate!
Whilst all of our trophy winners should be congratulated, not least being local lad, Pete Moulder, who deservedly won the Young Player of the Year Award, special mention should, however, be made of Bill Johnson, another young player from the 'Hooky Academy' who became the proud recipient of the first ever Spirit Award, presented by Val Stratford from the Lee Stratford Community Trust in loving memory of the Club's never-to-be-forgotten Number 1 Supporter. This coveted award, which is to be offered annually, is presented to the young player who throughout each year just ended has, in the opinion of the Club, best shown the 3 exceptional qualities for which Lee himself will always be fondly remembered by all those in the Club which he loved so much: dedication, camaraderie and pure spirit.
So, as our footballers, our supporters and, indeed, all those associated with our Club take a deserved rest and prepare to watch the impending World Cup, it remains only for me to sign off until next season when, once again, we will return with our batteries re-charged and ready to participate in the 'beautiful game'. Meanwhile, we trust that Sports & Social Club colleagues in the Cricket Club, the Harriers and the Tennis Club will all have a most enjoyable summer. Up the Hooky!
