HOOK NORTON FOOTBALL CLUB
SENIOR SECTION

At the halfway stage in the season, the First Team is handily placed, midway down the table, with 3 matches in hand on most of the other teams. Because of a postponement and no fixture last Saturday, the Team has not played for over 2 weeks which is frustrating since the lads were beginning to string together a good run of results, culminating in the 4-0 home thrashing of Purton on New Year's Eve. So, as I write this column, here's hoping that we can continue where we left off, with away matches coming up against Cricklade Town and Winterbourne United, followed by a tough home encounter against Premier Division Shrivenham in the Supplementary Cup. Thereafter, a level of greater consistency than has been shown in the first half of the season could result in the Team realising Manager Ben Spiero's ambition of achieving a top 6 finish. If team spirit is anything to go by, then we have every chance of realising that goal.
The Reserves, meanwhile, continue to struggle in their division but, with James Pope and Layi Olubaji now in charge, we look to them to start climbing the table in the second half of the season. Undoubtedly, their cause will be aided by the return to the Club of local boy, Andrew 'Scrap' Lester.
Meanwhile, off the field of play, the Senior Club, in association with the Junior Club, has not rested on its laurels. Indeed, the main aim of the Club, now it represents an amalgamation of the village's senior and junior clubs and comprises of a high level of players under 18 years of age (including in both senior teams), is to demonstrate to itself and to others (especially parents) that it is adopting a safe, caring and responsible attitude towards its players. This attitude is in accordance with the ethos of the Sports and Social Club to which it is affiliated and, with this approach being the driving force, it recently held a very successful evening of Child Protection Training, organised by the Oxfordshire Football Association, at the Hooky Clubhouse. About 20 adults within the Club have been trained in Child Protection and have submitted themselves for Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checking in the cause of giving the Club a greater level of integrity, respect and standing within our community. The ultimate aim is to achieve Charter Standard, which requires the Club, inter alia, to have a certain number of qualified coaches and, having regard to this training and previously held training in emergency aid, the Club is entitled to believe that it is now making significant strides in the right direction. Accordingly, we remain optimistic for the future and trust that we can make a meaningful contribution to the well being of not only to the Sports and Social Club but also to the reputation of Hook Norton and its surrounding area.

IYENGAR YOGA CLASSES
Yoga classes will be restarting at Hook Norton Primary School on Thursday 23rd of February (7:30 to 9:00pm).
Sam Smith, a qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher, who lives in the village, will teach the classes.
The classes will be suitable for beginners as well as more experienced students of yoga
The Iyengar system of teaching yoga is methodical and progressive, emphasising detailed correctness and absolute safety. When necessary, it uses supports called props that allow students to progress in their practice of postures safely at their own pace, to suit their body. Beginners work in a basic way on simple postures according to their capabilities. As they develop they then move on to more refined ways of working as well as to more complex postures.
