| **PARKING** Despite previous Notes on this subject the situation seems to be worsening. The Parish Council is concerned by thoughtless parking within the village, which is positively dangerous in places, particularly close to some road junctions. May we ask you to think of the implications for other road users when parking your vehicle and we would remind parishioners yet again that it is illegal to park within 10 yards of a road junction. Also it is illegal to park on pavements. Please have consideration for your neighbours when parking your vehicle; we do not want a spate of accidents in the village. |

SHOPPING BUS The fortnightly shopping bus will run on Thursdays 2 and 16 February and 2 and 16 March. Following an increase in the hire charge by the coach operator (Jeffs), the Parish Council has raised the fare to £1.50 - the first increase that anyone can remember. It is still a great bargain. Children aged 5 and over will now be charged £1. Peter Fry |

CEMETERY WALL We know that parishioners are concerned about the state of the cemetery wall. We have been considering how best to solve the problem and, after taking professional advice, we have concluded that the only real solution is to re-build it completely. Obviously this is going to be very expensive, with a best estimate at present in the region of £65,000. We are applying for grant assistance and should know whether we have been successful by early Spring. However the cost is still going to make significant inroads into our reserves and may preclude us undertaking other projects for a little while.

PARISH PRECEPT Because of the projected expenditure on the cemetery wall it is necessary to increase the Precept for the coming financial year, starting 1 April 2006. Costs have been contained over the past 2/3 years and the increase only represents a rise of 2.7% on the figure claimed for 2003/4. |

MEMORIAL HALL We are pleased to inform parishioners that our planning application for an extension to provide a new kitchen to further improve the facilities at the Hall has been successful. However we will have to wait to see if our application for funding for the cemetery wall is successful before we know when we will be able to complete the work. As often said it is your Hall, please make use of it. For details of availability please contact the Parish Clerk, Ken Porter, 01295 758352. |

CHANGES IN THE PARISH COUNCIL Following the retirement of Joe Williams we are pleased to welcome onto the Parish Council Derek Brotherston. Derek will be a member of the Environment & Open Spaces Working Group. |
OVERHANGING HEDGES Similarly may we remind parishioners that overgrown trees and hedges, which hang over roadways, can produce a dangerous reduction in visibility. Please check your trees/hedges and if necessary cut them back. Hedges adjoining pavements and footpaths can also be a nuisance and a possible danger after dark to pedestrians and should be kept trimmed back at all times. Work to trees and hedges should be carried out in the near future before the birds start nesting again. |

AUDITOR The Parish Council needs to appoint an internal auditor for the year ended 31 March 2006. Not a massive task but a necessary one. The role attracts a small honorarium. If interested please contact either Cllr Brian Clay [737622] or the clerk, Ken Porter [01295 758352]. |

BOTTLE BANKS Parishioners are leaving boxes/bags of bottles and jars at the site when the banks are full. This inevitably means that bottles will be broken with a real risk of injury. We do try to ensure that the banks are emptied regularly but this may not happen immediately at busy holiday periods. Please remember where the bottle banks are sited and if you do happen to visit and find them full please retain your bottles for another day and do not simply leave them. |
