![]() It would be difficult not to be moved by the music in the next concert of Chipping Norton Choral Society on 1st April. It may be April Fool’s Day but it is no joke to describe the pieces that are to be performed as some of the greatest British choral music by the composers Sir Hubert Parry and Sir John Stainer, who were both Professors of Music at Oxford, and Sir Charles Villiers Stanford who was Professor of Music at Cambridge all around the turn of the last century. Parry and Stanford became two of the principal figures in the renaissance of British music in the late 19th Century and the choir will perform some of their beautiful part songs as well as the dramatic work ‘The Crucifixion’ by Stainer which forms the centre piece of the evening. The concert will be in St Peter’s Church, Hook Norton and will be conducted by the Society’s Director of Music Peter Hunt with Bernard West on the organ. Seats are unreserved and demand is expected to be very high with tickets only £8 each. The concert starts at 7.30 pm and tickets are available on line at tickets@cncs.org.uk or from Sarah Cobb on 01993 830775, or Cotswold Newsagents in Chipping Norton or from any choir member. |
