HOOK NORTON (SENIOR) FOOTBALL CLUB

With just over a third of the 2005/2006 Season already under our belt, the verdict, so far, for the First Team is probably, could have done worse but, also, could have done better. Indeed, at the time of writing, whilst we are handily placed in 7th position, it has to be conceded that, with a little more consistency and composure, we could so easily have found ourselves in the top 3 of Division 1(West) of the Hellenic League. But that's football for you and, in fairness, it's likely that most other clubs in our division would also say that but for this or but for that things could have been so vastly different. So, it's up to us to put things right for the remainder of the season, as I'm sure we will, and there's still a long way to go before we find out who's got themselves into 'the mixer' for possible promotion. Such an eventuality is still possible for Hooky since, apart from our match against a very competent and skilful Winterbourne United who will undoubtedly take the top spot, we have competed with parity, or more, against every other team that we've played. So far, our stars have been the ever dependable Mike Kenny in defence and the 'goal machine' known as Dean Barker up front. We sincerely hope that they and others in the team will continue to do their stuff for the remainder of the season.
The Reserves, meanwhile, are having a hard time and their bottom position in their division hardly reflects some of the very creditable performances that this mainly young and inexperienced team has given so far. As the Manager of this team, Phil Jacobs has not got any easy job but he must take credit not only for the spirit of his team but also for several of his emerging players, a number of whom have been called up for First Team duty and have performed admirably when their services have been required. Keep up the good work, Phil and the lads; your time will inevitably come!
At the time of writing, some very challenging matches are coming up for the First Team. First of all, Ardley United will be visiting The Bourne this coming weekend in the First Round of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup whilst, a week later, Hooky will visit Wiltshire to take on Highworth Town in the First Round of the Hellenic League Challenge Cup. Both of these opposing teams are, of course, from the Premier Division so they will provide a good test of how we are currently doing. Couple these matches with those over the Festive Season, including the 'tasty' encounter with Easington Sports on 27th December (probable early kick off), and you can see that there is much to look forward to. Up the Hooky!
