Other news from Hook Norton Tennis Club
The five teams we run in the summer are doing well, particularly our A team, which has won nearly all its matches so far. Adult Mixed Tournament This took place on a blistering Sunday in June; a great day was had by all, and the winning pair, Stuart Ralph and Elaine Priestley, had to fight hard to overcome the stiff opposition. Primary Schools Mini-Tennis Tournament Report A primary schools mini-tennis tournament was held at Hook Norton Tennis Club on Thursday 24th May for children from three local primary schools. The year two pupils from Great Rollright, Hook Norton and St Marys Chipping Norton primary schools received six weeks tennis coaching with four boys and four girls being selected to compete in the tournament. In total there were thirty-two pupils participating, the majority were playing tennis for the first time. Great Rollright were the overall winners finishing first and second in the girls and boys competitions respectively. Many of the children have now become involved in the coaching programme and are attending after school clubs. The tournament was very successful and it is hoped that it can be made an annual event. Hook Norton Tennis Club Adult Coaching There are adult coaching sessions taking place at the tennis club during the daytime for those wanting to attend. A ladies session began on Tuesday 3rd July from 10.00am-11.30am, the time and a day for mens coaching is to be confirmed. If you would like to attend then please contact club coach Marc Gilkes for further details. Everybody is welcome! Club nights and more tournaments Club nights are on Tuesdays and Fridays; also on Sunday mornings. Everyone is welcome. There is a singles ladder if you prefer to play singles, and there will be ladies and mens championship tournaments later in the year.

A Big Thank You to all who came to support us. The Winning Team!
HOOK NORTON (SENIOR SECTION) FOOTBALL CLUB
Since the last Newsletter was circulated, our First Teams promotion to the Premier Division has been confirmed by the Hellenic League as a result of the teams well deserved 3rd place finish in Division 1 (West) at the end of last season. Accordingly,
we warmly congratulate Manager Ben Spiero and his Assistant Adrian White who,
together with their players, have realised this most creditable achievement for our village club. Hook Norton FC First Team - Season 2006/2007 Promoted to Premier Division of the Hellenic Football League
At the time of writing, in association with the Sports & Social Club to which it is affiliated, the Football Club is now tasked to provide the necessary facilities for Step 5 Football, including modest spectator accommodation, floodlights and, of course, the new clubhouse/pavilion. Whilst the clubhouse/pavilion is unlikely to be available for use until the end of the year at the earliest, prior to which the existing building will continue in use, the Football Club will be aiming to have the other facilities in place by mid September after the cricket season has ended. With the new season beginning on 11th August, it therefore means that all early First and Second Team matches have to be played away from home until such time that The Bourne can make its annual transition from a cricket arena to a football arena. Until that time, as usual, the Football Club extends its good wishes to the Cricket Club for a successful season in both the league and in any cup competitions.
Once more, Ben and Adrian will be at the helm of the First Team (again generously sponsored by Smiths of Bloxham) as it sets out on the daunting but challenging task of locking horns with the likes of North Leigh, Hungerford Town, Highworth Town, Abingdon Town etc etc. Meanwhile, Stuart Lester will be managing the Second Team for the second season running, ably assisted by the loyal and ever-reliable Layi Olubaji.
Twice-a-week training began in early July and, in advance of the new season, friendly matches have been arranged, details of which will be notified around the village nearer the time. In conclusion, we have much to look forward to and, as always, we look forward to your loyal support and encouragement in what will undoubtedly be a tough but, hopefully, enjoyable season for our players, officials and supporters alike. Up the Hooky! Geoff Jesse James
