Spirit Award
The presentation of the Hook Norton Senior Spirit Award was held on 2nd June. The winner this year was Joe Davies. Unfortunately, he was on holiday but one of this team mates was presented with an engraved glass football trophy on his behalf.
The Spirit Award is presented to players who, in the opinion of the management, have shown throughout the season, the qualities of Dedication, Camaraderie and Pure Spirit.
These three qualities define the passion that Lee had, not only for the game, but also for the Club and its members.

HOOKY PLAYERS
At a committee meeting of the above group on 12th June 2007 it was agreed to postpone the September production of 'The Haunting of Hill House' to next June, when more people will be available for the play. There was so much interest in the play from the general public that we felt justified in holding it over until then. In the meantime it is hoped to arrange some play readings to which all will be welcome (existing members and, hopefully, new ones).
We have been waiting on the Yenworthy dates from the school before finalising the pantomime. These are now to hand and the performances of 'Beauty and the Beast' are booked for the 23 - 26 January at 7.30 p.m. with a matinee on 26 January at 2.30 p.m. as well, in the Memorial Hall, as usual.
Children's auditions, which will involve speaking parts, will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday 11th September 2007 in the Memorial Hall. The teen and adult auditions are on Thursday 13th September 2007 at 8 p.m. also in the Memorial Hall. If you have ever aspired to anything - in front or behind the scenes, this is your chance to come forward. No previous experience is necessary, so don't be shy! It's a fun thing to do.
The pantomime will be directed by Richard Wheelton, with Anna Bradshaw assisting and being responsible for the dancers. Cate Whitehead will be musical director and rehearsals will commence at the beginning of October. Nigel Whitehead will again be stage manager, with myself as producer. Kate Underwood will design the set, so expect some inspired effects.
At the time of going to press the Players have a need of young adults of both sexes (16 - 30 age group) and if you can sing or dance, so much the better.
You want to know more? Then ring me or Richard Wheelton.

HOOK NORTON FILM SOCIETY 27TH SEASON
Hook Norton Film Society starts its new season on September 22nd with “Borat”, a controversial comedy that breaks all the conventions of political correctness while at the same time being extremely funny and we finish next May with “Babel”, a dramatic thriller in which a series of interlocking stories from four countries converge at the end to reveal a complex and tragic human story.
We are also showing “Volver” by the acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, “The Page Turner”, a French thriller about obsession, desire and revenge, and an award-winning Romanian film. This season’s silent movie “The Passion of Joan of Arc” is renowned for one of the greatest performances ever recorded on film. Long thought to have been lost to fire, the original version was miraculously found in perfect condition in Norway in 1981.
The full programme is in preparation and will be ready in August, when anyone interested in joining can pick up a copy and membership form in the village shop, post office or library.
For further details call Andrew Bowen or Gillian Rose.

THE SHADOW AT COMPTON VERNEY, WARWICKSHIRE;
Exhibition dates 30 June - 9 September 2007
The Shadow is the first extensive group show of its kind focusing on psychological and symbolic meaning attached to the shadow. The exhibition is organised by Palazzo delle Papesse, Siena and MAN, Nuoro, and has its only UK showing at Compton Verney.
The theme is explored through the medium of installation, video and photography. Artists include: Doug Aitken, Laurie Anderson, Carlo Benvenuto, Christian Boltanski, Fabrizio Corneli, Ceal Floyer, Mona Hatoum, Gary Hill, Nino Longobardi, Urs Lüthi, Ottonella Mocellin and Nicola Pellegrini, Tracey Moffatt, Margherita Morgantin, Marvin E. Newman, Annie Ratti, Rosanna Rossi, Anri Sala, Susanne Simonson, Fiona Tan, Andy Warhol, William Wegman and Francesca Woodman.
Shadows have been a constant source of inspiration from Egyptian tomb paintings to early Renaissance art, and the exhibition explores how the theme emerges in the work of modern and contemporary artists. Recurring fascination with this theme lies partly iin that the shadow as a scientific, but enigmatic phenomenon also has illusory connotations. Reassuring yet forbidding, shadows carry a range of associations, and this exhibition offers a series of atmospheric encounters which reflect the constructed superstitions of society as well as expressing individual psychological states.
The Shadow is curated by the Italian academic and critic Lea Vergine, and is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue.
