HOOK NORTON (SENIOR SECTION) FOOTBALL CLUB
Although, as I write this article, it's only mid July and the new season is still a full month away, there is already a feeling of great excitement and expectation within the Club.
This feeling has been generated not only by the prospect of a new campaign but also by the Club being notified by the Football Association last week that it had just been awarded Charter Standard Club status, two months ahead of schedule. This award is a prestigious achievement and has been attained by the senior and junior sections working together over the course of the past 12 months, during which managers have received coaching certificates to at least Level 1, club officials have been trained in child protection and have been 'checked out' by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and, in addition, the constitution has been updated, with codes of conduct introduced for players, club officials and parents/spectators. The award serves to demonstrate that the FA is satisfied from the above efforts that the Club can be regarded as an organisation of repute, integrity and responsibility where the players involved, and especially those under the age of 18 years and their parents, can be assured that they will be looked after in a proper and caring way. Furthermore, in material terms, the Club can expect to benefit, by having received this recognition when seeking to improve its facilities and, finally, it is now authorised to show the Three Lions in any form of advertising. As I write, plans are afoot for the award to be presented officially to the Club by David Hovard, Vice President of the Oxfordshire FA and the OFA's representative on the FA Council, at a small public ceremony in the Clubhouse on Friday 21st July when, together with those connected with both the senior and junior sections, it is hoped that several community dignitaries will be able to attend.
So what about any other action, both on and off the field of play? Well, there's been plenty happening on those fronts as well. The Club is delighted to announce that Smiths of Bloxham will be its new main First Team Sponsor but, as in previous seasons, other local businesses and individuals, too many to name, will also be providing financial support as we strive to kick on in our development as a responsible and well organised club that we hope can be a credit not only to itself and to the Sports and Social Club to which it is affiliated but also to the whole of Hooky and its immediate catchment area. It goes without saying that we are eternally grateful to Smiths and to all our other sponsors and associates, without whose support we just could not afford to survive. Ben (Spiero) and Adrian (White) remain respectively as Manager and Assistant Manager of the First Team whilst we welcome Stuart Lester, Head of Sport at Charlbury School and Level 2 FA Coach, as the new Reserve Team Manager. Good luck to all three of them and to their players as they strive to earn Hooky some honours on the field of play in the coming season which commences on 12th August with an away fixture at Cheltenham Saracens, once again in Division 1 (West) of the Hellenic League which, this season, is sponsored by Sport Italia. Before then, we have the prospect of home friendly matches against Letcombe on 15th July, against Winslow on 18th July and against Ardley on 7th August, when we would hope, as in previous seasons, to have your support, please.
